Itec is seeking a Controls Engineer to join our engineering team supporting operations at a globally recognized OEM manufacturing facility. This role is responsible for designing, programming, troubleshooting, and optimizing automated manufacturing equipment and control systems to improve safety, quality, productivity, and equipment reliability.
The successful candidate will work closely with production, maintenance, manufacturing engineering, and project teams to support both existing automated systems and the implementation of new equipment and technologies. This position is ideal for an individual who enjoys hands-on problem-solving in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and has a passion for industrial automation. Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, program, and commission industrial control systems for automated manufacturing equipment.
Troubleshoot and resolve controls-related issues affecting production, quality, and equipment performance.
Support PLC, HMI, servo, motion control, robotic, and vision systems across the facility.
Analyze equipment performance and implement improvements to increase uptime, throughput, and process reliability.
Develop and maintain electrical schematics, control narratives, technical documentation, and operating procedures.
Collaborate with production, maintenance, quality, and manufacturing engineering teams to support daily operations and continuous improvement initiatives.
Lead and support equipment upgrades, automation projects, and new product launches.
Perform root cause analysis on equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
Ensure compliance with applicable safety standards, machine safety requirements, and company engineering specifications.
Assist in the development and execution of preventative maintenance programs for automation systems.
Coordinate with equipment suppliers, integrators, and contractors during installation and commissioning activities.
Support project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and technical reviews.
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related discipline.
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility is considered an asset.
Experience
3+ years of experience in industrial automation, controls engineering, or manufacturing engineering.
Experience supporting automated manufacturing systems in a high-volume production environment.
Experience working within an automotive, advanced manufacturing, consumer products, or industrial OEM environment is preferred.
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of PLC programming and troubleshooting.
Experience with platforms such as:
Rockwell Studio 5000
RSLogix 5000
Siemens TIA Portal
Step 7
Experience with HMI and SCADA systems.
Knowledge of industrial networking including Ethernet/IP, Profinet, DeviceNet, and Modbus.
Experience with servo drives, VFDs, motion control systems, and industrial robotics.
Familiarity with machine vision systems and automated inspection technologies.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control system documentation.
Understanding of industrial safety standards and machine safeguarding principles.
Experience with commissioning, startup, and validation of automated equipment.
Location: Cambridge, ON Salary Range: $85,000 - $110,000
