We’re excited to share an opportunity for an existing vacancy as an Electrical & Controls Designer.
This is a highly technical, hands-on role focused on the design and development of custom automation and industrial control systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for electrical design, control panel layouts, PLC integration support, technical documentation, and collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver high-quality automation solutions.
Key responsibilities may include:
Designing electrical control systems for custom automated equipment and machinery.
Creating detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and bills of materials using AutoCAD Electrical.
Developing and maintaining electrical documentation in accordance with Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) requirements.
Supporting PLC hardware selection and system architecture, with a strong emphasis on Allen-Bradley control platforms.
Assisting with control system integration, commissioning, troubleshooting, and start-up activities.
Collaborating with Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Manufacturing, Procurement, and Project Management throughout the project lifecycle.
Reviewing electrical designs for compliance with customer specifications, industry standards, and internal engineering practices.
Identifying design risks and resolving technical issues prior to manufacturing and installation.
Preparing technical documentation, engineering change notices, and project documentation.
Participating in internal design reviews and supporting customer technical discussions as required.
Mandatory Requirements:
Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
Strong experience designing industrial electrical control systems for custom machinery or automation equipment.
Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical.
Hands-on experience designing systems utilizing Allen-Bradley PLC hardware.
Strong understanding of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and industrial electrical standards.
Experience developing electrical schematics, control panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials.
Excellent problem-solving and technical troubleshooting skills.
Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative engineering environment.
Assets:
Experience working with Schneider Electric PLC platforms.
Experience supporting commissioning and equipment start-up.
Familiarity with HMI, VFDs, industrial networking, and safety control systems.
