Our client, a well-established manufacturing organization in the Oakville area, is seeking an experienced Procurement Specialist to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for a well-rounded supply chain professional with experience across purchasing, customs, logistics, and production planning. The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring materials are purchased, imported, and delivered efficiently to support ongoing manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities
Manage day-to-day purchasing activities to ensure materials, components, and supplies are available to support production requirements.
Source and negotiate with suppliers to achieve competitive pricing, quality, and delivery expectations.
Manage supplier relationships and monitor vendor performance.
Coordinate domestic and international shipments, ensuring materials arrive on schedule and in accordance with production requirements.
Manage customs documentation and ensure compliance with Canadian import/export requirements.
Work with customs brokers, freight carriers, and suppliers to resolve transportation and customs issues.
Coordinate logistics activities, including freight scheduling, shipment tracking, and delivery requirements.
Support production planning by monitoring inventory levels, material requirements, lead times, and upcoming production demands.
Review MRP/ERP requirements and generate purchase orders based on production and inventory needs.
Monitor supplier lead times and proactively address potential material shortages or delivery delays.
Maintain accurate purchasing, inventory, logistics, and supplier information within the ERP/MRP system.
Analyze purchasing and supply chain data to identify cost-saving and process improvement opportunities.
Collaborate with Production, Engineering, Operations, and other internal departments to ensure material requirements are met.
Assist with inventory management and maintain appropriate stock levels while minimizing excess inventory.
Support continuous improvement initiatives within the procurement and supply chain functions.
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of experience in procurement, purchasing, supply chain, or materials management within a manufacturing environment.
Strong experience across purchasing, customs, logistics, and production planning.
Experience with domestic and international purchasing and shipping.
Working knowledge of Canadian customs procedures, documentation, and import requirements.
Experience working with customs brokers, freight carriers, and international suppliers.
Strong understanding of MRP/ERP systems and material planning.
Ability to interpret production schedules, inventory requirements, and supplier lead times.
Strong negotiation, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and supplier relationship management abilities.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Experience with manufacturing commodities and/or raw materials is considered an asset.
