Itec has partnered with a leading Automation company delivering robotic solutions for high volume manufacturing. They design, program, and commission robotic cells (welding, handling, palletizing, machine tending, vision inspection) for customers across the automotive, food, pharma, and heavy industries.
The Robot Programmer will develop, simulate, and commission robotic cell programs and cell-level logic. You’ll work closely with controls, mechanical and electrical teams to deliver reliable, safe, and high performance automation solutions from FAT to field commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and debug robot programs for industrial robots (FANUC, ABB, KUKA, Yaskawa, Kawasaki, or similar) for welding, material handling, packaging and machine tending.
Create and maintain cell-level sequence logic and integrate robot code with PLC/HMI systems.
Perform offline programming and simulation (e.g., RobotStudio, Roboguide, KUKA.Sim, etc.) to optimize cycle time and collision avoidance.
Participate in cell design reviews and define robot reach, tooling, end effector requirements and fixturing needs.
Execute FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) and lead shop commissioning; support SAT (Site Acceptance Testing) and on site commissioning.
Integrate vision systems, safety devices, conveyors, EOAT and peripheral equipment with robot systems.
Troubleshoot robot and cell performance issues and provide robust fixes and continuous improvement recommendations.
Produce and maintain technical documentation: robot code, calibration procedures, commissioning checklists, IO lists, and as built drawings.
Train customer engineers and operators on robot operation, basic troubleshooting and safe practices.
Ensure robot programs and cell designs comply with functional safety standards and company safety practices.
Qualifications
Diploma or degree in Mechatronics, Electrical/Mechanical/Controls Engineering, or equivalent hands on experience.
3+ years of hands on robot programming and commissioning experience in an industrial setting.
Proven experience with at least one major robot brand and associated offline programming/simulation tools.
Strong understanding of PLC programming and industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, etc.).
Practical knowledge of vision integration (Cognex, Keyence, Halcon) and robot vision communication.
Experience with welding robots (arc welding) is an asset for welding-focused roles.
Familiarity with safety standards (ISO 10218, ISO/TS 15066, functional safety concepts) and safe robot cell design.
Strong problem solving skills, attention to detail and ability to work under commission timelines.
Effective communicator able to work with cross functional teams and customers; comfortable traveling to sites for commissioning.
Technical Skills
Robot programming languages and teach pendant operation for major brands.
PLC platforms (Allen Bradley, Siemens, etc.) and HMI integration.
Motor/drives, encoders, I/O mapping and fieldbus configuration.
Basic welding process knowledge (if role includes welding cells).
